Creating Opportunities for Yourself to Grow
I am more than capable of whatever I put my mind, time and energy to
As long as it depends on you ask, ask for what you want.
One thing I’ve been learning recently is asking for what I want.
When reading the book of Joshua with my friends weeks ago, this lesson was recurring.
Asking seems almost like a crime to me. I often prefer “struggling” in place of asking. “I’ll do it myself”, “I’ll help myself”, “I’ll just wait for them to reach out”… You see, it’s not a value problem but an ego problem and that’s the truth. It’s ego most times. Sometimes it’s also fear, fear of what the other person will say and fear of receiving a no. But when has “no” terminated a person?
We are not humble enough to admit that most times what we want is in the hand of people. And we fear too much the response of others.
It’s okay to make the first move. It’s okay to politely ask for what you need if you believe the other person possesses what you need.
Because I asked, I got another chance
Last week, I wrote this newsletter on how I dramatically missed my interview.
Well, I asked for another time slot and didn’t receive a response for several hours. I reached out again and I got a “Sorry for the late response, let’s see how we can move forward”. I waited but there was no further response.
I reached out again, booked another interview and had my interview. I’m still waiting for a final verdict and yes, I’ve been checking my messages. It’s like a pending item in my mind.
So the week began with an early interview and yesterday's work came at me heavily, hence I’m sending last week’s update today.
This week’s spotlight
Last week I mentioned I’ll be spotlighting a member of this community, today we’ll be spotlighting Onome.
Last month Onome decided to start learning Data Analytics. We worked together and found the right materials for her learning journey and I’ve been so inspired by Onome’s progress.
Onome did her first Python project at the beginning of this month and that’s amazing!
Progress so far 🦄
🦄 Learning update
The previous week I was consistent with Python but last week I wasn’t because I started a new management course. I applied for and got Coursera financial aid for the course and so far the presentation has been beautiful and interactive. I previously mentioned how I stopped my previous business course because it was passive and the presentation was poor.
I did not host my Study with me 🦋 | 1 hour of focus Twitter space I host every weekday at 10 PM WAT last week, but I did study offline.
🐳 Digital tools and resources
I started creating the Python learning resource but my life has been filled with a lot so I’ll need a break from this one.
👩🏽💻 Another event
I and Gigii have set up the Twitter Space for this Friday covering growing on social media and starting a career as a social media manager — It’s set now, tried to do a simple design. Click here to set a reminder for this event.
Work
I did go onsite for work last week and last week I said I’ll share some photos.

🥑 I want to pull this stunt this week
I did this crazy thing as a learning trigger and this week I have to focus on learning SQL and yes, I’ve started.
Please share the Age of Learning newsletter with your friends on your social platforms. I’ll love to see your comments (even if you just say “Hi”) Likes and reshares will go a long way. It’ll help the community grow.
Yup! I definitely agree that most times, the refusal to ask for help is as a result of pride. Been there, done that. Hopefully, never again. It’s freeing to not live scared. Love these letters! And love it for Onome.
my first reaction was "OMG", thank you so much Des! we continue learning this week. .
