The news I was hoarding until everything was settled…
Hi friends,
First of all, I consider this newsletter as a personal space so I am comfortable sharing things I wouldn't share on my other platforms.
You are my people. Thank you for always supporting me.
I have so much gist for you today.
On the first day of August, I lost my job cause the project went on a break.
I prayed (I'm Christian) and felt at peace.
I was certain I wouldn't be stranded for long, it was tough—and bold!
Because my MacBook started crashing the following week 🥲
I got an internship offer (on it)
Got recommended for a job at 2 Fintech companies (still pending). I did not ask, they reached out.
Got referred for a contract job, I did not ask (pending).
The thing is, some of these are still pending.
But they came! I didn't ‘apply’ for them.
That means it can be replicated.
How did this happen?
This might not be the same for everyone but this was how they all came for me
They came from the people I have somehow helped with my resources or time.
A random stranger on Twitter asked for tips on a subject, I saw it on my TL, and I sent a DM with the little I knew though I was reluctant. I found out he was a founder and asked if he had any open role, that was how I got my paid internship.
A friend reached out to me to volunteer to speak at a webinar, and I volunteered. One of the speakers from the webinar mentioned me in her post, and we connected. I created and shared a free LinkedIn optimization guide, she used it, was thankful, and decided to refer me for a position at the Fintech company she works in.
Another person met me in a community where I was putting together volunteers, he was part of them but was too busy to show up. After a year, he recently reached out to me for a role.
Someone from my LinkedIn community referred me for a contract role.
I was thinking of these as just potentials.
But if I want them, I can get them.
That's the truth. My only restraint is time cause I can't work 4 jobs, so I have to choose.
Takeaway
You really can't tell who is watching.
I love helping people, sometimes it doesn't even make sense to me how I just spend so much time creating things only to give it out for free.
But it's everything that I did for free that brought me these opportunities.
God has been gracious to me.
When I do take hold of these opportunities and make a choice, I would let you know 😊
But I already started my internship🚀
Progress so far 🦄
🦄 My learning progress
I was not able to stay consistent with my content course because last week I had to be onboarded for my internship and I was taking care of my friend who was ill.
Good news! My MacBook has been fixed! And guess what? At no cost! 🎉 My MacBook will be here soon
So Python and SQL might be coming back!
I've also been consistent on LinkedIn
👩🏽💻 Events
I’m still planning my resume-building event for this month.
I would be volunteering to plan the upcoming HerTechTail event (November) 😊
